Give me a holler, if so. I have some questions I'd like your perspectives on.
This is Tim Van Valen, a Boy Scout and former Ranger, volunteer and all around great guy! Anybody in Southern Utah/NM/4Corners seen him? He was he was last seen in Cuba, New Mexico and probably headed to the Four Corners area and/or Bluff, Utah for some outdoor activity.
We are worried that we haven't heard from him. If seen please contact the local authorities to report his location.
If you come into contact please let him know he's being sought for three counts of MDWF (missed dinners with wife) violations.
I really think combining Young Pioneers and Nazis into a single category is a disservice.
Boy Scouts has a national mandate from Congress that is the same as the militaries. Like in my previous post. Completion of scouts provides advancement from private to private first class and similar in other branches.
I don't see how these three organizations are conceptually anything other than youth para-military. We are not going to agree. I wore a young pioneers badge on my scouting uniform if you want an indication of how often I have had this conversation (this was during the cold war).
Edit: I lost a corner of my totin chip card after a senior scout ordered me to remove an unapproved badge from my uniform. I invited him to remove it himself /s
Let's forget about how Nazis had scouts.
Young Pioneers are equivalent to today's Boy Scouts in the U.S. (soon to just be Scouts since they are opening to co-ed).
They are all youth para-military and disturbing on some level.
I saw a parent from a boy scout group raising his voice at a kid who just kind of looked frozen and sad. The guy was half yelling things like "Jesus christ, I thought you were a boy scout. Why aren't you helpful like everyone else? You're so selfish." They kid was no older then ten or eleven. I'm also positive he was special needs in some way. I wanted to say something, but they walked away quickly and I was worried I may make it worse for him too.
Unfortunately, it's stuck with me for a few days and I wish I would have said something. It took me back to some hard times in my life. Is it possible saying something could make it worse?
AKA, who's the biggest boy scout?
Edit: For clarity, compare only mainline canon from the comics.
If you feel like doing a bonus, discuss alternate versions/bonuses.
The Oakland County Child Killer aka The Babysitter - Part three: The suspects and web beyond Chris Busch
Now we will approach some men mentioned in the previous two posts.
Let me get this out of the way up front - it is a terrible, life-ruining thing to accuse someone of the crimes talked about in this write up. I'm very well aware of that, and being very careful to not implicate anyone that I don't have other documentation on. If I'm not sure or can't verify a name but feel fairly strongly that it should be included, I will abbreviate. I'm trying really hard to be fair and impartial in all of these, but these were some really fucking sick people, and I'm having a hard time dredging up any sympathy for those associated with them. Their whole group was predatory scum.
North Fox Island - Island in lake Michigan, purchased by Frank Shelden, used for a "nature camp" involving unsavory things with young boys, and the filming/photography of these things. Original source. You can also look at wikipedia, this is mentioned there. On Cathy's blog, in the comments there is this link to a blog of some college kids that sailed out to the island and camped out, went hiking - they found the old boyscout camp and took pictures. Including the "creepy basement." You need to look at those pictures.
Incidents at Island prompt new Michigan legislation on dealing with pornography. Below paragraphs from article
"Sitting at a Record-Eagle reporter's desk this morning, Gov. William G. Milliken signed into law a tough bill prohibiting the use of children in pornography. The desk belonged to reporter Marilyn Wright. The governor credited her with helping to "call the attention of public officials and the public at large" to the problem of child pornography.
' For nearly a year, Wright has written stories exposing a nationwide network of pornographers who use children in films, magazines and for illicit sex in phony boys camps. The bill the governor signed today will slap convicted child pornographers with a 20 year prison sentence, a $20,000 fine or both.
"The pornography issue, including the debate over local versus state standards is a complex one," Milliken said, "We have extremely strong principles involving the freedom of expression on one hand and the deep concern about the effects of pornography on society on the other." Ceremony at Record-Eagle "But there can be no doubt, no debate over the corrupting, destructive influence of pornography producers who use young people as instruments in their drive for profits," he said. "This is the beginning of what I hope is a constructive approach to the problem of porn," Milliken said.
[...] Wearing a gray suit and a tie with the blue and gold colors of the University of Michigan, Milliken wheeled Wright's chair up to a typewriter tray and put his name to the bill. He was accompanied by a small group of bodyguards and aides. Record-Eagle Publisher Donald J. Clifford and Editor John Kinney represented the newspaper along with Reporter Wright.
Wright said it was an "honor and a privilege" that the governor signed the anti-porn legislation at her desk. The stories Wright uncovered which helped influence the introduction and passage of the legislation began in the winter of 1976.
The first stories focused on a wealthy Detroit man, Francis D. Shelden, who is suspected of being involved in a nationwide netowrkof child pornography. Shelden owns North Fox Island -- off Grand Traverse Bay -- which authorities believe was used for some of the illegal activity. Sheldon is now a fugitive from justice charged with criminal sexual conduct. Wright went on to detail the activities of child pornographers from coast to coast. Her stories showed how pornographers used the cover of phony churches and fake children's camps to ply their illicit trade. The expose detailed how individuals, some them wealthy, became involved in financing the criminal business. Wrights' reporting caught the attention of publications and authorities in other states and helped touch off an intense public focus on the extensive child pornography business. The reporter is continuing to probe the pornography network.

Let's look at these names -
Big Money - Francis Duffield Shelden. Millionaire, life-long bachelor, and owner of an island. Family hugely involved in Michigan politics and old-money marriages. Like, his grandfather's house is now the Grosse Pointe War Memorial kind of money. Involved in more than organization devoted to troubled young men. He was stashing his money in the Virgin Islands as early as 1976
December 14th, 1977 - More from Marilyn Wright's reporting Paragraphs below from article
"Although a year has passed since his disappearance, Shelden's name today remains on the lobby registry of the Buhl Building in Detroit. And. authorities say. the 49-year-old Ann Arbor millionaire's business is being conducted by the fugitive's Birmingham attorney. L. Bennett Young. A bachelor, licensed pilot, graduate geologist, part time university professor, amateur botanist, land developer, oil consultant, market investor, reputed author, and sole owner of North Fox Island , Shelden's enterprises hop-scotch across the country: Oil leases in Kansas City, a ski lodge in Aspen, a land investment company in Denver, the Monroe Creek development in Charlevoix, and extensive stock holdings in a West Indies trust company.
Police records indicate Shelden cleaned out his Ann Arbor and North Fox Island residences shortly after Gerald S. Richards, an associate of Shelden's in Brother Paul's Childrens Mission, was arrested on criminal sexual conduct charges. That was in July, 1976, approximately one week before state police obtained a search warrant for the Ann Arbor premises. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Dec. 7.
A second warrant was issued a week later. His prominent Grosse Pointe parents, the Alger Sheldens. say they have had no contact with their son since he fled Michigan. Both are reported to be ill. His brother. Alger Jr., is reported to have told authorities that he was hiring an armed guard and posting North Fox Island, the alleged site of illicit sexual conduct, to keep curiosity seekers and unauthorized police away. Many residents of Charlevoix who knew Shelden as a gentlemanly scholar who was willing to share his good life, have yet to fully recover from the shock of his alleged sexual deviation and his disappearance. Authorities, on the other hand, now believe that the purported benefactor had ulterior motives when he treated youths to hunting trips on the island, skiing trips at Aspen, beach parties at the family estate on Antigua in the Caribbean, and set up trust funds for their college educations.
The tiny lakeside community was futher jolted when shortly after Shelden disappeared, an 18-year-old youthwhom the millionaire had befriended since he was nine, committed suicide. Informed sources say Shelden wrote the youth from Miami, explaining that he would be "away for awhile" working on some "personal problems" but didn't want the youth to think he had forgotten about his promise to send him through college. A trust fund had been set up, Shelden wrote, to be administered by his brother, Alger Jr. A simple phone call would put the money in the youth's hands, Shelden said in the letter.
Three days after the warrant for Shelden's arrest was issued, and one day prior to the charges being publicly exposed in the Record-Eagle, the young man put a rifle in his mouth and pulled the trigger. And. FBI agents say they plan to conduct a follow-up interview with another Charlevoix youth who was a frequent traveling companion of Shelden's. The young man was reported to be attending college on a similar trust fund. Authorities say the young man recently has been driving Shelden's car which earlier had been abandoned at the Charlevoix airport. Airport officials confirm that the car has been removed from the parking lot. They couldn'yt say who drove it away.
On the same day that the first young man's letter was sent from Miami, Oct. 10, 1976, another letter purportedly by Shelden was sent to Cranbrook Science Institute in Bloomfield Hills. That Francis D. Shelden . . . disappeared last year letter, submitting his resignation as a member of the board of directors of the exclusive educational community, was postmarked from Kearney, N.J., where Adam Starchild, the Church of the New Revelation, and Ocean Living Institute are all located.
About that same time. Starchild was reportedly negotiating the sale of Shelden's plane through Combsgate Aviation in Denver. Colo. In January of this year, Shelden resigned from the board of directors of Boys Republic, Inc., a Farmington Hills residential center for the treatment of emotionally disturbed young boys. The envelope, bearing the name and address of the family firm, Shelden Land Co., was postmarked Jan. 19, from Detroit. That was the last public word from Francis D. Shelden. . Next: A profile of another suspected child pornographer wanted by police. " End of article
Later rumored to be Frank Torey, changing his name after fleeing to the Netherlands. I'm not going to link you good folks to BoyWiki - let me save you the click. Google if you must. But there is pretty sufficient evidence around the net.
"Frank Torey (1928-1996) was an author, publisher and boy-love activist. He was born near Detroit, Michigan. Torey was educated at Yale University and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. In 1979 he moved to the Netherlands where he lived as an expatriate.
Ventures and adventures in boylove publishing
In Amsterdam, Torey published from 1979 to 1984 Pan: A Magazine about Boy-Love (changed to P.A.N.-Paedo Alert News from 1982). He also edited the first anthology of boylove fiction Panthology (1981), published by John Stamford's Spartacus. Pan stopped running in 1981 but Stamfort employed Torey as a general editor of Coltsfoot Press, a division of Spartacus, specializing in boylove fiction. When Coltsfoot Press went bankrupt in the mid 1980s, Torey founded his own publishing house, the Acolyte Press, the most important publisher of boylove fiction and erotic for a decade. Torey was also an author and published many of his short stories under the pen names Peter Zupp, Scott Altman, Wallington Fuger and Jotham Lotring.
Apart from publishing fiction, Torey was interested in the scholarly work on boylove which was becoming important in the 1980s. He translated many scholarly books and articles from Dutch to English including Theo Sandfort's The Sexual Aspects of Pedophile Relations (1982) and set up an additional publishing house, Global Academic Publishers, which published scholarly works such as Edward Brongersma's two-volume Loving Boys (1987) and Theo Sandfort's Boys on their Contacts with Men (1987). In addition, he served in the editorial board of Paidika: The Journal of Paedophilia (1987-1995).
Torey's work has been extremely important for the boylove community. As a publisher of fiction, he created the genre of the boy-love short story as we know it. With his scholarly ventures, Torey was instrumental in bringing some pioneering works to the English audience. Finally, as an activist in Pan, he fostered the myth of the Netherlands as a country tolerant to boy-love, "a myth that is becoming so terribly unstuck at the time of his death."(1)
Notes (1) D.H. Mader, "Frank Torey, boy-love activist, author and publisher, died at the end of June 1996," posted at alt.support.boy-lovers (Wed, Jul 10 1996 12:00 am)."
Big Money - Dyer Grossman was also a millionaire, but one from Long Island. He co-founded Brother Paul's Children's Michigan with Shelden, and their tax man, Malcolm McConahy. Between the three of them, they founded four confirmed tax fronts: Ocean Living Institute in New Jersey, Chuch of the New Revelation in Kearny, NJ, Brother Pauls, and Boy's Farm, Inc. in Tennesee. Chicago Tribune Link from 1977 Gerald Richards confessed this to police, noted in that link if you follow the jump.
Dyer is elusive online in terms of hard evidence. I have this article that suggests he assumed another identity. I have seen suggestions that he is actually Peter Lambourn Wilson aka Hakim Bey - known anarchist and boy-love advocate, but can't verify it and I'm not comfortable looking too closely into Mr. Bey. Dyer was a teacher at two all-boy prep schools, accused at both on inappropriate interaction with the students. He fled when sought by the FBI on charges of inappropriate sexual contact with a 15 and 16 year old boy in Michigan.
The Money Mover Malcolm McConahy changed his name to Adam Aristotle Starchild. He made a career of tax fraud and writing books about it. He also was constantly plauged with accusations of inappropriate relationships with young boys. Malcolm McConahy’s Perversion file states that in 1965 he admitted to sexually abusing two Boy Scouts in Minneapolis Troop 27. To his Scout victims, he was an Assistant Scoutmaster. From wiki - Between February and July 1965, McConahy was an assistant scout master with Troop 27 in Minneapolis, a troop sponsored by Plymouth Congregational Church of that city, but was suspended after admitting homosexual interest in boys in the troop. Scouting records state that his personal and family church relationship was with Joyce Methodist Church. At the time he was operating a travel business in Minneapolis.
In July 1965, McConahy was arrested in Wisconsin for circulating pornographic material. He was travelling to New York to take up residence there and was in the company of four boys to whom he had given money.
In 1966, he moved to Milwaukee where he applied in February to be a college reserve scouter. His application stated that he was studying at Blackstone School of Law, to graduate in December 1968. The application was rejected by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America who were aware of his scouting background in Minneapolis. In 1967 he was convicted of possessing obscene literature and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. In 1968 he was arrested for his involvement with a 16-year-old.
And he looked exactly how I would expect someone of that description to look. Ugh.
There's more on the internet about both names of this guy if you want to look him up further - this was the most fascinating, and revealing I think - off a personal blog of a man who attended the International Society on Individual Liberty (ISIL) Conference in Coasta Rica - 1999. link
One of the most notable people I met was Adam Starchild, who happened to be sitting next to me on a busride of conference people. Adam is an extropian expatriate who is an expert on offshore havens (I wrote about him in my essay Offshore Options for Cryonicists.) His last two countries of residence had been Spain & Colombia, and he was currently living in Panama.
I peppered him with questions about offshore life & opportunity. He said that he had gotten out of the consulting business because too many of his clients were pressuring him for information about how to avoid US taxes. He recommended that I investigate the "perpetual traveler" option, which involves having citizenship in one country, living in another and working in a third. I have doubts that I could do this and maintain adequate access to resources — especially for life-extension & cryonics.
Over dinner one evening I spoke with Adam and Andres, a student entering his last year at Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala who Adam was "patronizing" (ie, being a patron or sponsor for). [...]
Over a breakfast with Adam and Mary Ruwart I got into a fascinating discussion over whether slander & libel are crimes (since they do not involve "initiation of physical force") and of the difficulty in determining the extent of a crime such as rape, where psychological impact (a subjective response) counts for so much more than demonstrable physical injury.
And finally, from Wiki, surprising no one - "Starchild died in Spain, on 22 September 2006. He had recently moved there from Panama as he felt that he would receive better medical care in Spain. Earlier in 2006 he had traveled to Japan for experimental surgery on a tumor and he wrote that his operation there had attracted the attention of the Japanese media. Starchild was survived by his partner Javier. He left behind a remarkably diverse list of registered companies."
Nice group of guys so far, right? Money doesn't buy class - just power.

I am 38 years old. My first trip to the Eastern Sierra was in 1984 to Robinson Creek, near Bridgeport California. I had gone up every summer since, all the way up to 3 years ago. It was always sanctioned campground camping.
In the summer of 2003, after graduating college, my friend Brian and I, went on a 4-5 day trip, backpacking in the Eastern Sierra. I had never done this type of camping before. I was exited to go. I was a boy scout in my younger years, and had gone on several crazy excursions with my troop, but never into mountainous regions off the grid. I knew we may run into bears at some point on our journey so we prepared as best as we could, in terms of supplies. We traveled light, only bringing few clothes, 1 tent, sleeping bags, fishing gear, and cylindrical bear proof canisters to put our main meals in for safe keeping. We also had small day packs, which contained our candies and snacks for when we took day hikes away from our base camps. Lastly, we brought a blue, netted laundry bag and a long piece of rope. The plan was, at night, we would put all containers with food inside, into the blue laundry bag. We would then throw the rope over a tree branch and tie it to the laundry bag so it could be hoisted in the air out of reach of bears.
We started our trip out of Mammoth, CA, taking the Ansel Adams Wilderness Trail. For the first couple nights we stayed near Shadow Lake, hiking and fishing all day until we ran out of daylight. I was having the time of my life. Hiked to a couple lakes over 10,000 feet, catching Golden Trout.
For the last 2 nights of the trip, we stayed next to Garnet Lake. We found a nice area to set up camp. Basically, there was a little pond next to main lake. I assumed it was water leftover from snow melt. On the far side of the pond was a vertical cliff, which you can see in the picture provided. to the right, the cliff sloped down rather quick. This made it easy to go to the top if you walked around the side. At this camp we decided to take our laundry bag of food and hang it off the side of the cliff at night, tying the end of the rope to a tree trunk at the top.
The first night at this spot was awesome. We were walking around, exploring in the dark. No fear and no worries. very relaxing. The only problem was that I had hurt my knees the day before. It had gotten dark quickly and we had to run down the trail back to our base camp. We had no flashlights with us and were trying to get back before we lost light.
Our last day at Garnet, Brian said he wanted to go to Thousand Island Lake the next day. Around dusk, we ate dinner and we decided to go to sleep shortly after. My knees were starting to really bother me and I wanted to rest before the next day. Before calling it a night we had to secure our food. For some reason, I do not remember why, we decided to leave the bear proof food containers out of the laundry bag we had been hanging off the cliff. Brian thought it would be okay to just leave them on the ground away from the tent. He figured, if there were bears, they would just fumble with them but cause no harm. All we hung from the cliff were our day packs with our snacks and treats, inside the blue bag. This is when things get weird.
At some point in the night, maybe around 1-2am, we woke up to noises in our area, outside the tent. They were definitely noises from a large animal or animals. we assumed it was bears messing with the food containers we had left on the ground. we listened for a little while. That is when something brushed our tent right next to Brian's head. Brian grabbed this small pocket knife and wanted to go investigate. I convinced him otherwise. Keep in mind, we were not scared, I just didn't see it necessary for him to go out there. We laid there for a while listening to the sounds the creature/s were making. I figured, if it was bear activity, they would eventually give up and go away. I eventually went back to sleep.
In the morning I woke up and my knees were killing me. We decided to still try and go to Thousand Island Lake. We were about to start breaking down camp when we noticed the blue laundry bag was no longer hanging off the cliff. We walked up to the top to investigate. When we got up there, confusion set in. Laying on the ground next to the tree with the rope tied around was our blue laundry bag with a hole ripped in the bottom. The day packs were out and ripped open as well. Piled next to the blue bag was the rope, Here is where it gets weirder. Whatever did this had eaten every snack in the bag, which there were only 2 varieties. First were the Starbursts, small individually wrapped, chewable fruit flavored candies. All that was left were the wrappers. Not torn apart, but individually unwrapped. If you have ever eaten one of these, you will know the wrappers are on these candies pretty well. It takes a little effort to open them up to get the candy. Next to this pile was the wrappers to our individually packaged mini beef jerky sticks. Each one of these were all opened the exact same. A straight slice right down the vertical center, with the jerky removed. we had some deodorants and other toiletries that were untouched. I was completely baffled. Not just the fact something had feasted on our goodies but also, everything had an order to it. What I mean is, there was the rope, which was piled, the bags, and 2 piles of wrappers, separated into candy and beef jerky. Not mixed together. I was very naïve at that point in my life and assumed it was bears. In the photo you can see me at the bottom of the cliff. I am holding the blue bag mentioned throughout this narrative.
With my knee pain, and now this, we decided to cut the trip short, and head back down to Mammoth, where we would then drive to Bridgeport and spend a couple nights in Robinson Creek. That was that. I never really thought about it for years. I would bring up the story every now and again, as a weird bear story. Now, I just do not know.
There are some variables I have been wondering about lately. First, the rope. It was piled next to the bag. When a human or something with human like limbs pulls up rope, I would think they would grab rope with one hand and pull up. then grab with other hand. This motion would be repeated until the bag was at the top where it laid. This method would create a pile of rope as it is lifted up. Is a black bear capable of using its paws simultaneously like a human, creating a pile? Or, would a bear grab the rope near the top and start walking away from the cliff as it pulled, creating a long line of rope as the bag comes to the top? Second, the snack wrappers. When I eat Starburst candies, I have to use both hands to open them. I hold the candy with one hand and open the wrapper with the other, usually using a finger nail to pry it open. Can a bear use both hands like that to open such a small tightly sealed package? If not, how would they open them? I am assuming a bear would just eat them, wrapper and all. Now the beef jerky. They were sliced open with one cut down the center of each. If it was a bear, two paws would be needed. One to hold the item and the other to slice it open. If a bear only used one paw to make the cut while the jerky was on the ground, I do not think it would have been able to make such a precise and straight incision into the packaging. It would have been much sloppier because there would be nothing to hold the package in place to achieve such a precise cut. All that aside, I believe a bear would just eat the jerky, package and all. They were not large pieces. Small mini jerkies. I m not a bear expert though, so who knows. The third variable is the way we left everything that night. This was the only night of the trip we left the bear proof containers out of the hanging blue bag. This made the bag much lighter while hanging. I do not know if this difference in total weight has anything to do with it. Just another factor involved in the incident.
I do believe in the existence of bigfoot, and there have been documentaries about sasquatch living in the Eastern Sierra. Was this a bigfoot? I do not know. I know we heard large animal noises. Something did brush our tent and there was a snack fest that night by something who left the scene in a very orderly arrangement.
Best experience of my life........................................
I'm a 24 year old recent college graduate who's been considering a thru hike on the AT seriously for about 3 months now. I'm an Eagle Scout thats been hiking and doing various outdoor activities for pretty much my whole life. I am confident this is something I can really accomplish. I have a good amount of experience after living and working in the backcountry of Philmont Boy Scout Ranch for 4 months but that was back in 2015. Since then I've put on a little weight but am still a strong hiker. (Did a 10 mile dune day hike in the FL panhandle with no problem). I guess really I'm just looking for some direction as I start my journey to fulfill a long time dream. Thanks!
My son and I, who is 12, went with his Boy Scout troop to the gun range shooting at the 50ft targets. It was more or less his first time shooting a gun. It was tough at the beginning but at the end of the day had a good time shooting and had learned how to get the grouping in a quarter for the requirements. I’ve not owned a gun as an adult but shot a fair amount as growing when I was in a gun club. I want to get something we can shoot at the range and learn the basics including maintenance.
What is a good beginner 22 bolt action to start with?
Now I'm not hear to try and destroy this movie or anything. I don't even dislike it. But often time when someone says they don't like the character portrayal in the movie, there's someone who says he was portrayed that way because it's more realistic. I honestly think this is a shitty cop out answer. There's nothing more realistic about his personality in MOS. The character of Superman was just as realistic. Because there exists people like that. There are people who are so sure in what they're doing and are always any under circumstance willing to do the right thing to protect someone. There are people who act like big boy scouts that try and spread joy to everyone they know. Who stop every chance they get to get a cat out of a tree and all that. It's not like that type of character is just unrealistic.
Though I guess we aren't technically friends, roommates more like. Either way, same situations different people. I've always been an outcast in every group I've been in. Friend circles in school, scout troop, neighborhood, family, etc. It ends up always being the same thing.
I never had much to say, and when I did it would only come out as stuttering gibberish. I was (still am) rail thin, pale, with an uneven face and a glass eye that stares blankly at anyone I'm facing. That didn't help. Growing up I didn't get out much, and was very sheltered from most pop culture related things. Needless to say, any sort of friends I tried to make in school quickly found more interesting friends to be around. Same goes for the neighbors. Some of them moved away, but the few that stayed left me behind all the same.
Boy Scouts was no different. We were a small troop, yet there was a definitive inner circle, one that I was not part of. My lack of athleticism proved to be a nuisance to them, as all their interests related to sports. Even the younger scouts that joined later on were easily welcomed into the fold. High school is a blur, nothing of note outside of eating lunch out in the hallway alone. Occasionally I would get a visitor which was appreciated, but as it turns out they just felt badly for me. The next day they would act as if I never met them.
They say college is where you get a fresh start. I'm sure for some it is. I didn't go to college right away, instead I spent two years in community college. Two years of nothing but going to class, then to work in fast food, then to home where the only people I was in contact with were my parents and siblings, none of whom would be described as sane. Eventually I ended up being able to transfer to an actual university, hoping to begin building my social skills and become a normal person.
That went wrong very quickly. Every time. Every set of roommates I lived with so far in college has ended up the same way. Four of us in an apartment, the other three guys are all best friends. Then there's me. I would make honest attempts to hang out with them, but as usual I would have nothing to talk about. I don't have hobbies, awesome life experiences, or anything that most people have to talk about and relate to.
Fast forward to today, halfway through my final year of college. New apartment, new roommates, same shtick. They're all friends and I'm not. Two of them I know from last year, and I was hoping to get in with their friend circle after knowing them for a year. That didn't happen. The fourth roommate that we got at random did, though. Fit in instantly. After only a month or two. Like every friend group I was in, they talk about the awesome stuff they've been doing and did not think to invite me to, while I'm still in the room listening to them.
To get to the point finally, one of my roommates got a surprise birthday party thrown for him at his girlfriend's house. The three of us were notified by said girlfriend to show up to her place tonight to be ready for his arrival. We were all at home by the time it was about to start. What the other roommates did not communicate to me was when exactly they were leaving. I went upstairs to do something, and when I came back downstairs, they were gone. I texted them to see if they had left for her place, and they did. The birthday roommate arrived shortly after they did, and the party began.
Long story short, my friends forgot about me again. I'm used to it, though. They all do one way or another. I'm sure my presence won't be missed there. Even if I was able to make it, I would probably just sit in the corner in silence. It wouldn't have made a difference either way.
